What You'll Need
- Your Shinplex shin pads (unmoulded)
- A kettle (or alternative to heat water)
- A flat, deep tray - think lasagna dish or baking tray. Flat base is essential. Do not use a bowl or anything curved.
- A towel or cloth to dry the shin pad
- About three minutes
Step-by-Step: How to Mould Your Shinplex
Important before you start: Mould one shin pad at a time. If you put both in the water together, they may fuse and your shin pads will be ruined. One at a time, every time.
Step 1 — Boil your kettle
Bring your kettle to the boil, pour the boiling water into your flat tray, and let it sit for one minute to cool slightly. You want hot water - not violently boiling water.
Step 2 — Submerge the shin pad
Place one shin pad into the water. The water level must completely cover the shin pad so make sure it's fully submerged. Give it one gentle move so it doesn't stick to the base of the tray. Leave it in the water for two minutes. After two minutes it should be noticeably flexible and soft - that means it's ready.
Step 3 — Dry it quickly
Remove the shin pad from the water carefully as it will be hot. Give it a quick dry with your towel.
Step 4 — Mould it to your shin
Place the shin pad against your shin with the longer side on the outside of your shin Press lightly around the edges to form it to the shape of your shin. Do not press hard or stretch the material - light, even pressure is all you need. Hold it firmly against your shin for a few minutes until it hardens.
Step 5 — Repeat for the second shin pad
Once the first shin pad has fully hardened, repeat the entire process for the second one.
A Few Things Worth Knowing
You can remould at any time. If the fit isn't quite right, just repeat the process. The shin pad will soften again and you can start fresh. Each pair supports up to 2 remoulds.
After moulding you can apply the shock-absorbing layer, it's permanent. The shock-absorbing layer bonds directly to the moulded shin pad. Once it's on, you cannot remould - so make sure you're happy with the fit before applying it.
